Yussef Nesme: Expanding His Horizons
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
SAN JOSE – While landscaping and plumbing may seem like completely different industries to many people, for Yussef Nesme and his career path, one led to the other. “I started out in landscape design,” he explains. “It seemed to me that plumbing was pretty similar to landscape irrigation, and since plumbing is something everyone needs, I decided going into that industry would be a good career move.” Today, as Marketing Director of Rayne Plumbing and Sewer Service, Inc., Yussef enjoys the professional diversity that his position allows. “I love every aspect of my job, whether it’s meeting with people and building relationships on the sales and marketing side or working with my hands in the field.”
A lifetime resident of the Bay Area, Yussef says he appreciates living in what he considers the “capital of technology.” “In terms of technological innovation, the Bay Area is where the action is, so it’s exciting to be a part of that. Our area is both home to some of the major technological leaders and innovators and the place where all the new startups want to come to get established.”
When he’s not working, Yussef likes engaging in a number of sports-related activities, including playing pick-up basketball, snowboarding, jet skiing and training mixed martial arts. He also enjoys spending time with his mother and sisters, as well as his dog, Capone, a 150-pound boxer-pitbull mix.
Throughout his career, Yussef has learned the value of the age-old maxim: the customer is always right. “A lot of times, people will get carried away trying to convince somebody else that they’re right,” he explains. “But the amount of energy, time and frustration involved is rarely worth whatever they’re arguing about. As a professional, I’ve found it’s much more beneficial to avoid arguments altogether and just do what I need to do to make the customer happy.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Yussef expresses a desire to expand his horizons. “I’d travel the world,” he says. “I’d especially like to visit Greece—besides the historical sights, I’ve been told it’s gorgeous and the people live really simply, which sounds like it’s right up my alley.”
