Blaine Munsch: Taking Care of Business
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
PLEASANTON — Blaine Munsch has spent his entire life building things, but only recently has he taken on his most challenging project: building a business. “My dad started teaching me construction when I was a boy, and I’ve been working with him ever since,” he explains. “A couple of years ago, he decided to start moving toward retirement, but before I took over the business, he wanted me to get some experience running a company of my own from scratch. That’s actually the whole purpose of Willow Creek Construction, which I started in 2014. During the last couple of years, I’ve focused on handling the business side of things, and so far it’s been working out quite well.”
Today, Blaine says his favorite part of his job is the satisfaction it gives him. “I take a lot of pride in standing back at the end of the project and seeing the results of my work. Plus, I like taking a client’s vision and making it reality. I’m basically making someone’s dream come true, which is very fulfilling.”
Originally from Canada, Blaine now resides in Pleasanton with his wife, Bobbi, and their two sons. Outside of work, he says his family likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors. “We’re a very outdoorsy family, and we do a lot of camping, fishing, and quad running. We’re also big into Boy Scouts—both of my sons are scouts and I’m an assistant scoutmaster.” In addition to outdoor activities, Blaine enjoys sports, particularly hockey. “I played semi-pro hockey when I was younger, and I still enjoy following professional hockey as a spectator.”
In his life and career, Blaine espouses the importance of treating others with respect. “I always try to treat people the way I’d want to be treated, whether it’s my family, customers or employees,” he says. “For example, when I’m in the field with my guys, I don’t boss them around; rather, I lead by example. I think the fact that I’m a hands-on owner fosters greater respect from my employees and greater confidence from my clients.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Blaine says he’d go on an epic fishing trip. “I’d go to Alaska and do some fishing. I used to do a lot of fly fishing in British Columbia, and I hear it’s even better in Alaska, so that would be the next level.”
